Apartment Fire Displaces One Family
GRAND CHUTE, WI – On Thursday, April 30, 2026, at about 10:40 p.m., the Grand Chute Fire Department (GCFD) and other nearby fire units were sent to the 300 block of South Kools Street for a reported building fire. The Outagamie County Communications Center told crews that several people had called to report smoke inside the building.
When firefighters arrived, they saw smoke in the hallway, and some residents had already left the building. At first, they were told the fire was in a third-floor apartment, but after a quick search, they found it in a first-floor apartment.
Firefighters put out the fire using a water extinguisher in about 10 minutes after arriving. They used a second extinguisher to put out any remaining hot spots. The building was aired out, and extra fire units were sent back.
The cause of the fire is still being investigated. The amount of damage is not known yet. Three people who lived in the affected apartment had to leave their home, but all other residents were allowed to return to the building. The American Red Cross helped the displaced residents find a place to stay for the night. No one was injured.
The Grand Chute Fire Department was helped by the Grand Chute Police Department, the Outagamie County Communications Center, the Appleton Fire Department, the Fox Crossing Fire Department, the Greenville Fire Department, and the American Red Cross.
The Grand Chute Fire Department reminds everyone to leave a building right away if a fire alarm goes off. Closing doors as you leave can help slow the spread of fire and smoke. Never go back inside until firefighters say it is safe.
