Mar. 23, 2026 - Skid Steer Fire in Detached Garage
On the evening of March 22, the Grand Chute Fire Department responded to the 4200 block of N McCarthy Road for the report of a piece of equipment on fire inside of a detached garage. Upon arrival, fire crews were met by the homeowner who was trying to control the fire by putting snow onto the burning machinery. Fire crews applied water to the fire, which was quickly extinguished. The garage was impacted by the smoke from the equipment fire and had very minimal structure damage. Fire crews were on scene approximately 1 hour conducting an investigation and assisting the homeowner with cleanup of his garage. The cause of the fire has not been determined yet.
Automatic aid responses were received from Appleton Fire Department, Center Fire Department, Freedom Fire Department, and Fox Crossing Fire Department, but these partners were all cleared without need for their assistance.
The Grand Chute Fire Department recommends that all homeowners have easily accessible fire extinguishers in their homes, garages, and workshops for situations like the above fire. The most common fire extinguishers for homes are ABC dry chemical type that will extinguish small fires of the most common fuels. These extinguishers are readily available at most home improvement, hardware, and discount department stores. Remember the PASS method (Pull, Aim, Squeeze, Sweep) for using a fire extinguisher.
