Well Permit

Instructions for Private Well Permit

If you have or are connected to the town’s municipal water system and you opted to keep your well for outside use only, you are required to have your well & pump system inspected by a licensed well driller or pump installer & certified to comply with Wisconsin Administrative Code Chapter NR812, Subchapter IV every 10 years.  A copy of the certified inspection report needs to be submitted to the Town of Grand Chute.

How do I test it?  Collecting the water sample for testing isn't as easy as turning on the outside tap, filling a bottle and taking it to a laboratory for testing.  There are two ways to have your well tested.

  1. You can contact a water testing facility of your choice and have them come to your home to collect the well water sample, run the tests needed & provide the required report(s); or
  2. You go to the water testing facility of your choice and pick up a water testing kit. They should explain how to properly get a water sample from your well. Collect the water sample as directed, take your water sample to the testing facility for them to run the tests & provide the required report(s) to you.

New permit requirements:  Two (2) “safe” coliform bacteria test results and one (1) “safe” arsenic test.  The two safe coliform bacteria tests are to be done a minimum of two weeks apart to establish a history of “safe” water.  The permit fee is $50 and is good for five (5) years.

Renewal requirements:  One (1) “safe” coliform bacteria test and one (1) “safe” arsenic test result.  The permit fee is $50 and is good for five (5) years.

Obtaining a permit:  When you receive the required “safe” sample results, bring them to the Public Works window or mail the results to the Grand Chute Town Hall, Attn: Public Works Department, 1900 W. Grand Chute Boulevard, Grand Chute, WI 54913 with the $50 permit fee and we will issue the permit.

Non-compliance:  Violation is subject to fines/penalties from the Town of Grand Chute and the Wisconsin DNR.

Please Note:  We understand your well is for outside use only, unfortunately, this does not exempt you from the above ordinance.
