LETTER OF EXPLANATION
Cross Connection Compliance
Why am I getting this notice?
In order to protect the public water supply system, all commercial and industrial facilities in the Town of Grand Chute are required to have their properties certified to be free of cross connections to the municipal water supply, as required by the DNR.
What does this notice require?
The property/business owner must have the property surveyed by a Wisconsin licensed plumber, for cross connections to, and the elimination of any cross connections to the municipal water supply. This is to be confirmed by the completion and submittal of the CROSS CONNECTION COMPLIANCE STATEMENT.
What is a cross connection?
A cross connection means a connection or potential connection between any part of a water supply system and another environment containing substances in a manner that, under any circumstances, would allow the substances to enter the water supply system by means of back siphonage or back pressure.
Why is this necessary?
All public water providers must meet rigid requirements established by state and federal agencies to assure the safety of the public water supply. One of the requirements is that the Town have a comprehensive program to identify and eliminate cross-connections. The program adopted by the Town Board, with the approval of the State, requires commercial and industrial establishments have their facilities certified periodically to be free of cross-connections.
What do I need to do?
Contact a Wisconsin licensed plumbing contractor of your choice. A qualified plumber must examine your plumbing system for cross connections. If cross connections are found, they must, of course, be eliminated. When your property is found to be free of cross connections, the master plumber will sign the CROSS CONNECTION COMPLIANCE STATEMENT and remit to the town plumbing inspector according to instructions on the form.
How to Submit Documentation:
Complete Cross Connection Compliance Statement (below) and save to your device. Then click on "Submit Documentation" and complete the short form. Next, attach your documents and submit. Cross Connection Compliance Statement will not be accepted without required signatures!
The Cross Connection Questionnaire is ONLY completed in instances when certain commercial properties present a lesser risk similar to residential properties (i.e. a building with two restrooms & a break room sink ). If you feel this applies to your commercial building, complete the Cross Connection Questionnaire and submit WITH the Cross Connection Compliance Statement. It will then be reviewed by the Plumbing Inspector.
